Chocolate
How clearly each one of us remembers our first taste of chocolate.
Janine says her grandmother made chocolate cake from scratch. Lea Ann liked to stick her spoon right down into the 5-gallon tub of chocolate ice cream. Pat's in-laws were from the old country and brought German chocolate cake to the family dinner. Almond Joy candy-bars came in two-halves, one for my little brother and one for me.
Those were the old days. Everything cost less, but took more time to make.
We're pretty sure chocolate tastes as good now as it did then and that it's not the only thing we remember having for the first time, but that chocolate's surely among one of the first things we remember ever having.
