the democracy of inanimate objects

The party's over.

Everyone's gone home.

Foodrunners, an organization founded in San Francisco by Mary Risley, has come to pick up the leftovers, which are taken to the sober-living house on Polk St., including the cream puffs.

The fallen balloons, after a long night in the rafters, get together to decide how to proceed. A discussion ensues in which silence and respect for the others' point of view is paramount.

It's a joy to hear their conversation, especially the interest they take in opinions that differ from their own.

Curious and hopeful, realistically optimistic, the fallen balloons are in the process of forming two groups--primary colors in one and secondary colors in another--when the janitor enters the auditorium and turns out the lights.
