Death is funny business!
Dead, you sink beneath the horizon line of public consciousness, not having to be important any longer, finally living as long a life as Duchamp’s, ‘there is no solution because there is no problem.”
Even ghosts who are monstrous can become interesting again, worthy of study even while roasting in hell. The monsters no longer struggle on our behalf between the forces of good and evil that exist in each of us , having given away some of our own powers to those greedy enough to seize it, acting in our names. Now, the monster is dead and we the living are allowed to pronounce him dead!
Death is funny-business, especially when someone as important as a monster dies.
It’s a sport like soccer—to imagine the last breath the monster took: was the breathing tube properly inserted into his feelings or his thoughts?
