A little Rabelais

From The New York Review of Books, December 16, 2016

11 p.m, bedtime, after I've locked all the doors and closed the blinds against The Devil and/or The Son of The Devil, it's TIME FOR RABELAIS!!!!!

O my, what a treat!!!!!!!!!!!: sex, food, drink, and nonsense!!!!

(from Book Two, Chapter 6)

"A turd, a turd!" exclaimed Pantagruel. "What does this fool mean? I believe he is coining some new devilish language for us here, and throwing an enchanter's spell on us."

"My lord, there's no doubt about it," replied one of his followers. "This fellow's trying to imitate the Parisians' language. But all he is doing is murdering Latin."
