It's much better to see the cathedral of Laon from the ground than from the air, it's a religious experience when you see the cathedral this way or as close as you'll probably ever come to a religious experience. Even people who have no truck with religion, or who have supply-side spiritual nature's, are impressed with the way the cathedral dominates the landscape of northern France. Everything rises up to it, to the height one can imagine God creating to show all of us the potential God sees in man.

I've been to Laon, having seen the cathedral from a great distance and remember traveling steadily toward it, as if traveling toward the cathedral was some sort of crusade. But that was years ago and I can't remember what it looked like inside or what happened once I got there.
