Redheads on the rise

Monsieur Ambivalence, french author, popped up at the Maker's Faire in San Mateo yesterday.

Deconstructing the event--that features over 600 'makers' ranging for the very hi-tech to low tech to no tech--which is his want for better or worse, the doughy frenchman, often mistaken these days for the actor Gerard Depardieu, made these observations:

--garlic fries should be crispy
--the wondrous ability of Americans to make money in amusingly arcane ways (ThePaperAirplaneGuy.com; Ben Heck)
--the totally useless--mushroom spore kits, create your own poem booklets, motorized bicycles that run on prune juice--outnumber things with real purpose
--the percentage of people in the American west with red hair is rising

Monsieur scribbled away the afternoon, walking from exhibit to exhibit, very much in his element despite certain cultural differences, noting especially the grande experiment involving Coca-Cola Zero and Mentos.
