Upside Down Meditation
It’s when you don’t sleep and you have to hurry off to the next thing when it’s your sleeplessness you’re really chasing.
And when you get there, sleepless, you finally see enough to understand that you’ve accepted your own anxiety!
It seems something always pops up, no matter what: the ball is either dropped by the center fielder or kicked downstairs to a well-meaning but clueless senior executive.
OK, now you’re really on your own! And being alone only takes 15 minutes.
And yes, you are in America, a relatively young country, either a country working out a dialectical process consciously, a country ‘in labor’, as a woman might be going into labor so that a child who is loved may be born. Or a country working out some weird destiny made up of the crudest, cruelest kinds of belief systems, small minded & tribal, idiotic, profane…
…and yes, you are an American! An American, meditating!
But what are you really getting as a sleepless American for the time you’ve spent meditating?
Well, nothing really, no more than 15 minutes of your time in the possibility that you’ve exchanged all of your judgements, all of your criticisms, for praise. For what have your judgements, your criticisms, your condemnations really bought you?
Nothing really, other than simply noting the particular American feeling of Wanting or Needing to be free, free of something or other, whatever it is, FREEDOM in all capital letters, for every man, woman, and child.
But what is freedom?
