Root Canals for the Wealthy
Root-canals are now fashionable among American Republicans as a form of self-inflicted pain, not only to save a tooth but, in the bigger picture, to save the nation from the pain Republicans are inflicting on the people.
I remember a time when Republicans and their Bankers sat around in air-conditioned offices breathing in swamp-cooled air while playing checkers and talking of civil rights, equal opportunity, FDR and the Supreme Court. It’s vastly different now, understood that Bankers are Republicans and Republicans are Bankers and they all live on the bottom of the ocean floor, pop-eyed as codfish, swimming up to the surface for air so they can foreclose on the farm of some poor commoner with gum decay and then dive down beneath the water where there are no such things as ATM machines or even the quaint notion of looking after disadvantaged folks with little or no money at all.
Republicans and their Bankers still enjoy advocating for the free-market system, the preposterous idea of the American Dream, union busting while denouncing Universal Health Care, women’s reproductive freedoms, and any and all threats from the catastrophic changes in global climates.
I’m now in the debt of Big Bill Haywood, ‘Wobblie’ and labor leader, who once said, ‘The Capitalist has no heart, but harpoon him in the pocketbook and you will draw blood.’
