Post Halloween

Last night, my mind wore a costume I created especially for Halloween in which I was pictured as a poet who doesn’t much like poetry going door-to-door begging for alms and candy. Just by pushing a button that rang a doorbell my prayers were often answered! A begging bowl full of M and M’s, Twix, Snickers, Three Musketeers, Skittles, Starburst, Jolly Rancher, Raisinets were left out on the porch even when the lights inside the house were off and it was clear no one was home.

It’s now the morning after Halloween. What had I been thinking? That I was really a poet or some sort of artist?

My mind is now empty, good riddance!

And thank you everyone who didn’t come to the door.

A house that looked occupied but wasn’t, the poet wrong again! Salt Lake City, Utah, October 31, 2024.
