Inside the Python's Pituitary Gland

POEM

            A Scotch

            And then another Scotch

            And then a trip

            To Scotland

Tucker Carlson: “FBI Agents are working at Twitter, it’s a well-established fact.”

Nuclear fusion power announcement at Lawrence Livermore Labs! Renewable clean energy that replicates the energy of the sun. Zero carbon emissions i.e. with fusion more energy is produced than consumed. This announcement comes just in time for the Christmas season, Christmas at the exact intersection of Capitalism and Christianity.

Any journey up the Amazon is full of angry natives, piranhas, and 40% discounts.

“A creative process is a philosophical search, shaped by matters of practice and procedure that extend from the first touch of the artist’s pencil, brush, or chisel to the final decisions about what constitutes completeness.” Jed Perl, ‘Between Abstraction and Representation’, NYRB Nov. 24, 22 issue. (Perl always worth reading).

The job of abstraction is to make the unnatural look at least three-quarters natural.

Wake this morning 4:30 am, no more sleep to be had. Make coffee, go to the window to watch. Sunrise cleared for takeoff at 6:46 am. And dawn does not crack as in “the crack of dawn.”

Last night we watched the docu on Harry and Meghan. A very likable couple, victims of insidious atavistic media, palace control, and racism. But I was tugged in another direction: all the wealth, privilege, advantages, and then they shipwreck at a mansion in Montecito!

Our political society, such as it is, is constituted by people invigorated by dissension, petty disagreements, simulations of chaos—people speaking much too loudly to people who don’t want to be spoken to. There will always be creepy people in politics, that’s how power works; power attracts creepy people.

I’m watching too much TV. I’m also watching Fox News. Fox News is far more interesting than the other network news shows. I cut Fox News with Scotch and Perrier water, put an ice-cube in the glass, then change the channel to ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ after I realize that watching Fox News is like watching someone you love get cancer and then hearing them say they want more cancer, more cancer.

The problem Christians face in the Anthropocene epoch: that God may not be looking them in the eye, and that the Earth may not want them here anymore.

Inside the python’s pituitary gland is a crossword puzzle… (beginning of a poem).
