My Struggle with Science Fiction
The old lady at the rest home—she wore a little blue sailor cap—asked me if I was a Christian Scientist.
“Christian Science is science fiction,” I said, trusting that even if she didn’t appreciate my answer she’d appreciate my honesty.
“No,” she said, nonplussed, “it’s Christian Science.
My struggle with science fiction isn’t whether or not it’s christian; it’s that it so often presents a world I wouldn’t want to live in, and then presents ever more peculiar ways to make it even less livable.
