Core Incompetence
I once had a business partner who liked to put down another business partner with the words, "it's not your core competency." It was his way of controlling her participation in the business, so that he could maintain his lack of competency as well as camoflage the absence of any core. Trumpian, he pre-dated Trump though he despised politics--he said to me more than once that he, "liked to fly under the radar."
He flew as low to have voted Republican right through the George W. Bush mob scene. Though we've since lost contact, sealing our divorce in 2011 or so, I presume he voted Trump as I can't imagine him voting any other way.
Every morning I spend some time examining my core competency and finding that I have little or none. The core competency I had once is no longer there, and no competency has shown up to replace what little competency there was to begin with. O there's a little competency there, flashes of the old competency and portents of the new, but no sustaining competency has appeared in the last 3 years.
Until this morning!
Sitting at breakfast table, reading the newspaper, the competency I once had in sussing out political situations from a public relations/problem solving point of view, suddenly returned. I wouldn't call it a core competency--it's more a supplemental competency--but it answered, at least for me, one of the most of my vexing questions of my time: why did D Trump get elected? And once elected, in office?
WE THE PEOPLE actually admire people with no core competency, we admire them for they are just like us!
For the last 3 years I'd had it all wrong! The least important part of Trump's rise is his 'conservative' political persuasion--I knew he had none, not that I'm prescient or even insightful, but I do respect the obvious as my oldest son said when he was five years old. The key to Trump's power is the breathtaking incompetence displayed in managing the executive duties entrusted to him by the electoral college. The incompetence is breathtaking, beyond even the wildest imagination of the loyal opposition, so great that it cannot be unwound. The incompetence is now beyond comprehension, even as explained by The New York Times or the website Portside, so overwhelming in its magnificience that other incompetent's, especially those well below the President's economic and social status who support his presidency, finding in it some sort of inexplicable reassurance that incompetency is now the quickest way to reach the top, will never waver in their devotion to Commander-in-Chief Incompetence.
My competency is temporarily salved. I did not wake this morning humming "Itchykoo Park" by the Small Faces as I have every morning since November, 2016, confident that WE THE STOCKHOLDERS will soon have our say.
