Sweetheart of the Rodeo

There are some things language can't deal with but music can and will, as all art "aspires constantly to the condition of music" (Walter Pater, 1877.)

On the 50th Anniversary of the release of The Byrds 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' I spend a moment wondering how all this happened, and why? Donald Trump, John Bolton, Paul Manafort, Brett Kavanaugh, Orrin Hatch, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, bumper stickers with the words Pray to End Abortion, EPA rollbacks, voter suppression...

Sweetheart of the Rodeo was released August 30, 1968, on my 18th birthday, the day I was first eligible to vote. I find this both sad and hilarious.
