I don't really think Trump's a racist; I think he finds it necessary to remind his base of its racism in order to keep his base, which is of course racist, close to him.

I re-read Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" once again last night, in honor of MLK. If you've never read it, read it, it's short, a very interesting piece of interrogative writing, written as if Thoreau is forming his thought as he's writing. Interesting too is that Thoreau originally titled it, "Resistence to Civil Government."

Then I read MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." It's written in such clear, declarative language, the kind of language that makes me believe, as I used to believe, that good writing is good thinking.

When I woke up this morning for some reason I woke up thinking about Emily Dickinson's poem about death, the most famous one.
