Publisher as god
Having decided there are only two types of writers, I am drawn irresistibly to Gertrude Stein who wrote, I am I because my little dog knows me.
The two types of writers are just that, two types: 1) the type who writes the story to fit the idea they already hold of life and 2) the type who writes the story to create the idea they hold of life.
I hope to publish the second type of writer, the type of writer for whom writing is the only thing, or close to the only thing, they do well in the eyes of people who matter to them.
The language that is attractive to me is the language that engages the idea that only the present tense is real.
As publisher it's tempting to believe that the infinite number of words are equal to the infinite number of numbers, but of course this is not the case. The infinite number of words are only infinite in their infinite combination and recombination, as opposed to numbers which are infinite all on their own.
To summarize: I enjoy the way words fill space more than I enjoy the way numbers fill space. I hope the present tense sends me a multitude of manuscripts.
