Storm and stress
Just being with someone else is enough sometimes, never mind being intimate or expecting them to be as interested in me as I am in myself.
And sometimes I'm the only person in the room who knows where the phrase, 'honesty is the best policy' comes from.
The others take educated guesses--Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain, Hillary Clinton, Bob Dylan--but they're all wrong.
I'm wrong too, but my educated guess--Machiavelli--is better than theirs so at least I get a few points.
It's kind of discouraging though; I'd presumed intelligence, a presumption I'm old enough now to know not to make. Not only do they not know who said, 'honesty is the best policy,' they don't care who said it.
There should be a circle in hell reserved for people with little or no curiosity. Or at least a door they all have to stand behind, where I can see them but they can't see me.
