In Cold Blood
Who can forget the phrase, my teeth ache for a cigarette, as written by Norman Mailer sometime in the 1960's.
Or the idea of the non-fictional novel, in which the best American writers were so good at writing journalism but much less so at fiction.
Does anyone read Norman Mailer anymore?
Based on anecdotal evidence, it seems not as many people read Norman Mailer now as read Hunter Thompson.
Then there's Truman Capote, a vicious little man, if we're to believe the movie based on his life, "Capote," starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote and produced in 2005.
The late Hoffman, as good an actor as there was, died tragically. Acting as others, instead of as himself, could be said to have killed him.
