Philip Levine

I watched Downton Abbey last night for the first time. It was much better than I thought it would be.

Most of the real intelligence was downstairs among the butlers, maids, and cooks, the working people.

As I watched, I wondered if this was an idealization or the way things really were then.

Later, I wrote a little something for Downton Abbey, as if I was on the bottom of things looking up:

Your Lady ship,
Don't you know that dog hair
Sticks to everything?
