I watched Downton Abbey last night for the first time. It was much better than I thought it would be.
Most of the real intelligence was downstairs among the butlers, maids, and cooks, the working people.
As I watched, I wondered if this was an idealization or the way things really were then.
Later, I wrote a little something for Downton Abbey, as if I was on the bottom of things looking up:
