The Soviet Era

Other than to attend a comrade's funeral there is no reason to visit Kingisepp, Russia.

There are some interesting Soviet Era ruins in Kingisepp, including the old fur hat factory behind the hotel, (pictured) and a brand new McDonalds.

Stalin wore a fur hat, as did Khrushchev but the fur hat went out of fashion somewhere between the transition from black and white photography to color and the mass production of color tv's.

The hotel in Kingisepp once housed the administrative offices of a fur hat factory. The rooms are small, functional and all look the same. Rates are posted on the bulletin board in the lobby and rooms can be rented by the hour or the day.
