Do you know why modernist art looks less and less like the world looks and looks this way more and more until something has to happen and artists start making things that look like what they are making once again.
I do, I think.
The modernist project was to try to find a means of expression as far away from representation as possible, so things wouldn't look the way they looked but would look like something else.
Nature wasn't to be trusted, especially human nature most of all. Whatever something was wasn't enough, and if something was something the artist was compelled to make it into something else so that it could be modern.
Now sometimes things are just what they are and artists show them that way, often grouping them with other things that are what they are in order to appear to be making something new.
