Love letter

I'm liking the quiet of you not being here but I miss you tremendously, especially the sound of your laughter.

Because you're not here, I've put my books in your place in bed beside me. Looking at my books this way, as if they're little people in their own right as well as replacements for the real life I don't seem to be able to lead without you, I am sad that I've spent so much time reading.

Perhaps it would be better if I watched more tv in your absence, the things you wouldn't watch if you were here with me, like football and basketball, just to remind myself once more about how right you are about how empty these sports have become.

At night, I hear the couple next door talking. Though it's only her voice I can hear, neither of them sound happy.

Now it's almost morning and all the time I wasn't able to sleep, because you're not here beside me, is becoming the next day and the day after that and the day after that day.
