Autobiography
At last he knew why he liked being alone.
It took such a long time--60 years of being all by himself.
He traveled the world looking for the answer, and everywhere he went he looked the same.
Looking inside, he could see he'd had a really good life, far, far better than he could ever have imagined. And that the important people in his life had been far better to him than he'd been to them.
He made a study of the difference between solitude and loneliness, but came to no conclusion. He liked being alone because time lasted longer that way; he could feel each moment go through him even when he was asleep. But he missed certain loved ones and kept watching for them, hoping they'd stay close.
