Movie review
Question: would the movie be playing if no one was watching?
Watching Jessica Chastain unzip the body bag that she hopes contains the body of Osama bin Laden, in the movie "Zero Dark Thirty", it seemed quite logical to believe that the director of the movie, Kathryn Bigelow, imposed her will on Chastain's character to the degree Chastain became her mirror to deliver a sub-narration on how difficult it is to make a movie and the plucky determination required.
I hadn't wanted to see it but succumbed, having some time to kill.
I'd thought at the time of bin Laden's capture that it would have been much better policy to bring him in chains to The Hague where he might be tried for war crimes. It was shocking to hear he'd been shot, even more shocking to hear the raucous applause and cheers from the ladies and gentlemen at the gala fundraiser for a homeless shelter in North Beach where I was in attendance the evening of the news.
Almost as Weird: the Academy Award appearance by Mrs. Obama to announce "Best Picture." Weirder if "Zero Dark Thirty" had won. Weirder yet being the only person in the theatre.
