The Republic

Among the many definitions of freedom is the one that allows me to do anything I want to do.

Those who define freedom thusly are the easiest to manipulate.

They'll believe almost anything as long as it promotes the idea of freedom as favoring the right of the individual to do almost anything.

When Henry Luce founded Time Magazine he instructed his reporters to use language that a reader "with a sixth-grade education could understand."

So what's the big deal about the federal budget deficit and why is it being called a 'crisis', most vocally by people who believe that freedom is being able to do what they want to do and the less government the better, blah, blah?

The solution to the deficit problem, for instance is so simple: the government should just print up more money, and when that money's gone print some and some more after that until there's money for everyone and everything, even to pay our bills/ The government can do that. What's the problem? Why make a problem when there is no problem other than this curious notion that freedom means getting government out of your life so you can do what you want to do, like become a member of the Republican Party.

Everything is so obvious to me. Why isn't it obvious to you?
