Ocean Beach
It's much easier to to be happy than sad, but being happy takes more work. Being sad is harder on the body while being happy is easier on the soul, whether you believe you have a soul or not.
When I'm sad, often there's nothing to be done about it. I hear myself asking myself, "are you sad?" in what sounds like a woman's voice, full of care and concern. The voice is mysterious, the words are in English but inflected with eastern Europe.
Feeling sad is better than feeling nothing, though in the midst of sadness feeling nothing may seem preferable. Feeling sad, I am always in the midst of abandoning myself, while feeling happy I live in a place I don't want to leave.
Yesterday, the waves at Ocean Beach looked like a woman taking a ring off her finger and putting it back on over and over and over.
