Roberto Rossellini

The measure for making political decisions and the test for choosing those candidates for political office who will make political decisions on my behalf is this: is it fascist or is it socialist?

Particularily at a time when there's so much I don't need to know, when i'm both overcrowded with information and when information is withheld for the official purposes of protecting me from what I have a right to know.

How much better our political lives would be if we just came out and said we're at war, that we're bored without it, that our lives would be empty and memory would have no meaning if we weren't at war, and let the people make up their minds after having heard that!

After watching Rossellini's great film, "Open City" (1945) in which the Nazi's gun down down the great Anna Magnani just before intermezzo, I thought 'thank god for socialism', and that I would make all further political choices based upon the distinction between fascism and socialism as I understand them.
