The light last night

By the time the moon climbed to the top of the steep Baker Street stairs, San Francisco, it was out of breath. Perhaps the dinner in the French manner--bread and butter, canard d'orange, and two glasses of wine--had been too much. But the view from above was grand and worth taking a few mintues for before moving on.

Not too much later, the pretty lamp in the window of Sue Fisher King's store on Sacramento Street looked capable of staying up all night.
