Solstice
There's a way of thinking about winter as a building in which most of the rooms are dark, which makes the rooms that are light even more meaningful.
From the outside looking in, close to midnight, you wonder who lives in such a building and if they're keeping warm; or, if whoever's living there has turned the lights out and gone to bed.
Winter lives in a nice neighborhood at the moment--on Hyde near Leavenworth in Russian Hill--but anything can happen.
A real estate speculator, looking at the building winter's made of itself, might wonder at the end of the day if the end of the day came first or the first of the day came first.
In either case, it's the most wonderful day in the world.
