Traveling light in Blackfeet Nation
Didn't get too far today.
Left East Glacier at daybreak. Pulled up to Browning sometime before noon.
Creeks still high. Spotted a pack of wolves on Basin Ridge and horse spooked a little. Had to dismount, walk the long way around the base of Gable Mountain.
Clouds taking the high roads. Might storm by late afternoon, might not. Chancy mountain weather, you never know, changes
faster than we can walk or think.
Browning still Browning. Can't decide whether to stay awhile or move on. The Blackfeet have opened a casino on the edge of town and the food is supposed to be good and cheap.
Got to stop the drinking for good. Is it the wine itself or what the wine promises that gets me going? Don't want to end up being one those men who lie to themselves to the very end of their lives.
Push on to Shelby and then Great Falls. Lots of time to think, to pick a way through the prairie and hi-line. Have to find a way to tell a grown man to give up at least a couple of his illusions and just love himself.
