Where are we now? Somewhere in a country that swallows its young and old.

America is now officially unrecognizable. The religious right wants to cut 'entitlements' while the left is in thrall to corporations and big money.

Churches fill with believers. Every little Mormon town has at least one church, its steeple rising up into the landscape like those seen in French villages. French churches however, are for the most part empty in a humane post-Christian nation that got over the notion that God takes care of people better than the state.
