The woman with blue hair

She sat on a curb in The Presidio, smoking a cigarette.

"Your hair is amazing," I said, "may I take your picture"?

She said she'd colored her hair to teach her daughters, Girl Scouts, not to fear being different.

The coloring stays true blue for a couple of months, then turns into the most "incredible red, blonde, henna shades, all mixed in" according to my sitter.

As she finished her smoke, we talked about this and that.

Then I wished her a happy mother's day and walked on.
