Candycane tree
Candycanes grow wild in The Presidio.
On a small tree beside Lover's Lane, just to the west of the latest Andy Goldsworthy installation.
Birds don't like them, as they're wrapped in cellophane.
The crop came in just for the holiday season, but the fruit is considered ornamental.
People walking by stop and stare and then keep walking, tempted to pluck a candycane from the tree because it's free, then remembering they never really liked the taste of mint when they were children and that sugar is bad for you.
