William Blake on Facebook

Were he alive today, would William Blake have a Facebook account?

Acc. Alfred Kazin in his excellent introduction to The Portable Blake (Penguin, 1974), Blake was an isolate. "He was always very poor, and generally worked in such seclusion that at one period, near the end of his life, he did not leave his house for two years, except to go out for porter."

Social media may not have been Blake's cup of tea, one suspects.

However, a person of genius might transform a technology to his (or her) own purposes. Blake was a printer and engraver, very advanced technological mediums in their day, and might have put whatever technologies were at hand to the service of the Imagination. He printed his own books.

As the "answer is the misfortune of the question" acc. Maurice Blanchot, perhaps it's best to leave the matter to "The real man, the imagination" acc. Blake.

The answer then is no.
