The demands on non-fiction are less than the demands on fiction. Non-fiction has the facts, even when the facts themselves are unbelievable, so lurid as to be inexplicable, or when non-fiction buckles as it so often does into a shamble of bad writing and even worse reading..

If you know something without a doubt, as most writers of non-fiction do, you give up your right to be original. The writer of fiction, on the other hand, requires doubt, convinced that his or her writing ability will convince the reader of the truth in his or her doubt.

Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, especially the pursuit of happiness, especially when one has so little, next to nothing, to be happy about.

Yes, the foxes are guarding the henhouse, but don't despair, they're nothing special, they're really just regular run-of-the-mill oppressors.

The results in the upcoming election depend upon oppressed people becoming voters. It's on them for a change, the heroic minority.
